The day kicked off in Stonehaven with a thrilling Regional Trophy semi-final between Stonehaven Youth and Aberdeen East End. Stonehaven started brightly and took control of the tie, racing into a 3–1 lead and looking well placed for a spot in the final.
Aberdeen East End, however, grew into the game and turned the momentum completely in their favour. Showing real character and composure, they fought back with three unanswered goals to edge a pulsating contest 4–3.
The comeback win books their place in the final, where they will face Banchory Bucks in what promises to be another exciting encounter.
U14 Mornond Thistle Cup semi-final – Cove Youth v Northstar CFC
The second match of the day took us to Cove and the Lochside Academy astroturf, for the U14 Mornond Thistle Cup semi-final between Cove Youth and Northstar Community Football Club. This was a very different type of contest, with strong winds and cold conditions making free‑flowing football difficult.
Despite the weather, both sides battled hard, and the game remained goalless after 90 minutes. Northstar almost snatched it at the death, only for the Cove goalkeeper to produce a stunning save from his own centre-half’s last-ditch effort to keep it 0–0 and force penalties.
From the spot, Cove held their nerve to win 5–4 in the shoot-out, clinching victory after Northstar sent their final penalty over the bar. It was a harsh way for Northstar’s brave effort to end, but Cove progress after a disciplined display and a standout performance from their goalkeeper.
