Saturday at Spain Park – Cup and League action
Saturday afternoon kicked off at Spain Park astro, where I was pitchside for the Castle Trophies Cup 3rd round tie between Banks o’ Dee and Huntly Under 16s. From the first whistle, Banks o’ Dee took control with slick movement off the ball and sharp, confident passing through midfield and wide areas. Their composure in possession and willingness to press high meant Huntly struggled to get out of their own half for long spells.
The pressure quickly turned into goals. Banks o’ Dee moved the ball with real purpose, combining well in the final third and showing a ruthless edge in front of goal. By full time, they had run out 8–0 winners, a scoreline that reflected their dominance across all areas of the pitch – defensively solid, midfield in command, and a forward line that never stopped asking questions.
Game two at Spain Park saw Banks o’ Dee Under 17s back in action, this time against Deveronvale in a league clash.
Unlike the earlier one-sided contest, this was a much tighter and more competitive affair. Both sides battled hard for control, with Deveronvale pressing aggressively and making Banks o’ Dee work for every yard.
Banks o’ Dee, however, showed their quality at key moments. A disciplined defensive unit and clever use of the ball in attacking areas allowed them to carve out the better chances. In the end, they took their opportunities and secured a 2–0 victory, a professional performance built on work rate, organisation, and clinical finishing when it mattered.
Sunday at Northfield – Northstar turn on the style
On Sunday, I headed to Northfield astro for Northstar Sunnybank v Kincorth Eagles in the Under 13s League D Cup. The first half was finely balanced, with both teams competing well and creating chances. Northstar went into the break 2–1 ahead, but Kincorth were very much still in the game and pushing hard.
The second half told a different story. Northstar came out with extra intensity and started to take control, pressing higher and moving the ball quicker through the thirds. A few favourable decisions went their way at key moments, but they also made the most of their opportunities in front of goal. As Kincorth tired, Northstar’s attacking play opened the game up, and they pulled away to finish as comfortable 6–1 winners.
It was a fitting end to a weekend that showcased the depth of young talent in the area – from dominant cup displays to hard-fought league battles and second‑half surges that turned tight games into clear victories.
